1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV): Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Running is a popular form of recreation in our generation and in the text above, Apostle Paul compares the Christian life to running. The Christian life is a heavenly race. The dynamics of racing are applicable here too.

Every runner enters the race for one purpose only: to win. The believer, more so a Minister, must enter the Christian race for one purpose only–To win.  Therefore, nothing is acceptable except running and running hard:

a.       Walking fast is unacceptable.

b.      Jogging is unacceptable.

c.       Lagging behind is unacceptable.

d.      Showing little concern for the finish line is unacceptable.

The verse reminds us about four things:

1.      Don’t be a quitter  – there are so many in the ministry who quit when things get hard.  Run persistently.

2.      Put forth a lot of effort – running involves a lot of sweat so run with earnest effort.

3.      Have the “Go for the gold” mentality – go all out and try to win the prize. Run your best; run to obtain the winner’s prize.

4.      Run according to God’s rules – don’t cheat for God’s rewards never go to cheaters. Love God supremely and love others with great compassion. Allow the Holy Spirit to control your heart, soul and mind in this great race.

Remember these scriptures:

Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV)
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

GO FOR THE GOLD!  GOD BLESS YOU.
